FG Urged to Leverage Technology for Revenue Harmonization

The Federal Government has been called upon to deploy technology to harmonize various revenue collection streams and enhance national development. This call was made by stakeholders in the technology sector during the Second Technology Ecosystem Dialogue (TED) summit organized by the Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN) in Abuja.

Securing Nigeria's Revenue Streams through Technology

The two-day summit, themed "Securing Nigeria's Revenue Streams: The Power of Technology," brought together experts to discuss the importance of technology in revenue collection and generation. Dr. Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), emphasized the need for data protection and privacy in e-commerce and revenue generation.

Data Protection and Revenue Generation

Olatunji, represented by Mr. Babagboye, Head of Legal, Enforcement and Regulations, advocated for "privacy by design and default" to achieve data protection while collecting revenue. He also called on institutions with revenue collection mandates to implement the Nigeria Data Protection Act.

Inclusive e-Government and One Government System

Mr. Andrew Abu, founder of YIN, lamented the cumbersome nature of revenue collection systems in Nigeria, which discourages Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from thriving. He emphasized the need for a one-government system, where government institutions work together on a single platform, to achieve inclusive e-Government processes.

Technology as a Game-Changer

Mrs. Kate Simlek, CEO of the Stalwart Group, stated that technology is the future and can simplify processes, shorten time, and reduce costs. She emphasized the need for enabling policies, an enabling environment, and ease of doing business to encourage the use of technology in revenue collection.

Leveraging Technology for Revenue Generation

Mr. Adesola Akinsanya, President of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), emphasized the need to leverage software development, enterprise monitoring, and process monitoring to improve revenue generation streams. He stated that technology can provide real-time reporting and support accurate data collection.
